McGHAR, Robert Olin “Bob”, 79, of Notasulga, passed away at the Care Center in Opelika on Wednesday, September 27, 2006. Visitation will be held at the family home on Friday, September 29th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 30th at Woodland Presbyterian Church, 7377 Alabama Highway 199, Notasulga. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He was born February 4, 1927, in Macon County to the late Henry Lee and Madge May McGhar. Mr. McGhar is survived by his wife of 56 years, Olive Webster McGhar, sons, Jimmy L. McGhar of Auburn, Steven L. “Sam” McGhar of Montgomery, daughter Nancy M. Collier of Columbus, Georgia, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a sister, Merle M. Bentley of Notasulga. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Bernard McGhar. He was a lifelong resident of the Woodland community in Notasulga where he was a farmer, cattleman and a businessman, He was an active member of many agricultural associations. He was known throughout the community for his homemade stew and sausage. The family requests memorials be made to Woodland Presbyterian Church, 7730 Alabama Highway 199, Notasulga, AL, 36866, or to Children’s Hospital Foundation, 1600 7th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233. The Reverend Hardy Graves and Dr. David Bentley will officiate. Corbitt’s Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

GOLDEN, Mrs. Evelyn Hornsby McGhar, age 84, passed away, Tuesday, February 8, 2005. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 11:00 am at Jeffcoat-Linville Chapel, with Rev. Don Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Carrville Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Hervie L. Golden; sons, Larry McGhar (Toni) and Ricky Golden (Toni); sisters, Thalia Shockley, Elaine Tippett, Mavis Hancock & Sue Bass (Wilbur); sister-in-law, Merle Bentley; grandchildren, Casey Dillard (Jason), Kellie McGhar, Mitch McGhar, Seth Golden and Caleb Golden; great grandchildren, Asheton Dillard and Brittney Dillard. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Bernard McGhar and two brothers, Murry Hornsby and Douglas Hornsby. She was employed at People’s Bank of Carville for 32 years where she had served as Vice President. She was a faithful member of Woodland Presbyterian Church in the Woodland community.
