N:138. 14 Apr 1862. Charles Thaxton (X-his mark) to Elizabeth Tardy, one sorrel mare, yoke of oxen and cart, 2 cows to secure a debt of $105, consisting of three promissory notes dated 25 Dec 1862 [sic]. The mortgage was satisfied in full 11 Apr 1863.
N:301. 31 Mar 1863. Charles Thaxton (X-his mark) to his wife Sarah A. Thaxton and her children by Charles. Land (acreage not specified) in the South 1/2 of the Northwest 1/4 of Section 13, Township 21, Range 23, and all of his other property. “Whereas I Charles Thaxton . . . am now in the Confederate States Army and desiring to make some provision or settlement for my wife’s benefit to enable her to raise support and educate my children should I die, or be killed while in the service . . .” Witnesses: J. P. Burns, Augustus McGehee.
N:619. 24 Oct 1863. Benjamin S. Smith and Elizabeth Smith to Sarah A. Thaxton. 120 acres on the South 1/2 and the Southeast 1/4 of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 12, Township 21, Range 22. $700. No witnesses named. Recorded 12 Jan 1865.
N:620. 09 Jan 1865. Charles Thaxton to Luke Davenport and Gideon Black. Acreage not specified, the SE 1/4 and the North 1/2 of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 12, Township 21, Range 22. To secure Charles’ payment of $300 to C. H. Ferguson. (Davenport and Black are Thaxton’s securities on the note to Ferguson.) Witness: Augustus McGehee.

G:76. 01 Mar 1837. Fielding Hogan (also says Fielden Hogan and Fielden Hogins) to Stephen C. Lane. Mortgage of the South 1/2 of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 3, Township 12, Range 18, $136. Payment in full received 08 Mar 1837. Note: other mortgage deeds in this book did not mention spouses.
O:917. 13 Mar 1838 (recorded 08 Jun 1838). William Malpass (?) to Fielding Hogan for $1,000 paid by Fielding as guardian for his children and for John Hogans the executor of John R. Hogan’s deceased, to be applied to their use as John R. Hogan directs in the stead of one negro woman by the name of Harriet left them by John R. Hogan, grants Fielding and John the East 1/2 of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 22 and the East 1/2 of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 22, township 13, Range 18, 159 and 24/100 acres.
R:568. Order of sale by the Circuit Court against James M. Thaxton and Fielding Hogan, in favor of Hodges & Wright. Land was co-owned by both defendants. Land was sold on the first Monday of July 1840 to high bidder Hugh W. Henry for $17.50. Land sold was the Northeast 1/4 of the Northeast 1/4 of Section 10 Township W [sic] Range 18.
3:91. 18 Sep 1851 (recorded 26 Feb 1852). Fields Hogan and Elizabeth Hogan (x-her mark) of Montgomery County to John M. Lockey, the South 1/2 of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 3, Township 12, Range 18, 76 and 59/100 acres lying and being in the district of land subject to sale at Cahaba (?-smeared). $204. Witnesses: Luke Brook, William Oliver, William Athey (x-his mark). Note: on the same date, Hiram Norman also sold land to Lockey.
6:716. 19 Feb 1855. James M. Thackston of Montgomery County bought from Charles W. Oliver and Ann E. Oliver, 38 56/100 acres, the Southwest 1/4 of the Northeast 1/4 of Section 4, Township 12, Range 18. Note: on p. 915, James sold the North 1/2 of the Southeast 1/4 of the Northwest 1/4 to John Bullock.
7:586. James M. Thackston and Sarah E. Thackstone to A. S. Steele, all of Montgomery County. Mortgaged the Southwest 1/4 of the Northwest 1/4 of Northeast 1/4 of Section 4, Township 12, Range 18, in security of an indebtedness of $142.80. Debt was satisfied in full 14 Apr 1860.
9:571-572. 30 Jan 1878. James M. Thackston to J. W. M. Thackston, for love and affection for his son and $20, all of the North 1/2 of the Northeast 1/4 of Section 4, Township 12, Range 18, except 10 acres off the Northeast 1/4. 70 acres.

All of the Northeast 1/4 of Section 4, Township 12, Range 18, except 10 acres off the northeast corner, 70 acres. $100. On the next page, Richard transfers all the claims and titles to the within to J. M. Thackston to use during his lifetime.
