On muster roll for period 07 Aug to 31 Dec 1861.  Enlisted 29 May 1861 at Camp Cheatham by Col. Smiley for 1 year.  Last paid to 07 Oct 1861 by Maj. Davis. Remarks: “Detailed as regimental wagoner.”

Shaw, Third Qr., 1864 with signature, Jo Shaw Maj Commanding Hamilton Battalion, one nurnal?, $25.  Original requisition for forage for public horses, mules and oxen in service of Allison’s Squadron for 19 days, commencing 12 Mar 1864 at Munford Ala, (Shaw’s writing) had 42 horses, 8 mules, allowed 12 pounds corn daily, 10 pounds hay.  Original requisition for forage, 01 Apr 1864, 12 Jan 1864 (says major commanding Detachment Cav.)  Receipt for stores received at Macon GA 04 Aug 1864, 100 horse shoes, five lbs H.S. nails.  No other records.

COPY.  Requisition for stationery for field and staff of 28th tenn Regt, stationed at Dalton, 31 Mar 1864: 18 quins letter paper, 20 steel pens, 1 bottle of ink, 12 pen holders, 200 envelopes, 12 large envelopes.  Signed by SSS.  Requisition for forage for private horses in the service of Field and staff of 28th Regt notes Col. Stanton 3 Horses (out of 13 total); voucher {as Col. 84th Tenn.} from 05 Oct 1862 to 01 Jan 1863 $552.50, includes note by SSS: “This is my first pay as Colonel 84th Tenn REgt”; receipt for stores issued to Col. SSS for his own use 30 Dec 1863: 1 pr sp—? & strobs? $10, 1 Sword Belt, $25.

Hardcastle, remarks joined Camp Zollicoffer, sick at home; on muster roll for 07 Sep to 31 Oct 1861, enlisted 30 Sep Camp Zollicoffer by Jas. W. McHenry for 12 mos, present, apptd 5 Sergt 05 Sep 1861; on muster roll dated 28 Apr 1862; on muster roll for 28 Feb to 31 Aug 1862, present, elected 3 Lieut. 08 May 1862; on muster roll for Sep & Oct 1862, Jan & Feb 1863 presence not stated; on roster of commissioned officers as 2 Lt. resigned 27 Apr 1863.  Original pay voucher with original signature for 31 Jul to 31 Aug 1862 $80 as 2d Lieut.; original pay voucher 01 Jul to 31 Jul 1862, same; original officers pay account dated 07 May 1863 stating “This is the final settlement with the govt, Lieut Apple’s resignation having been accepted to take effect on the 27th April 1863, smeared original signature, also includes written statement signed by Apple that has not been absent from his command as of date; original officer’s pay account for 01 Feb to 01 Mar 1863; original resignation (faded) dated Camp Tullahoma 26 Mar 1863: “Sir, I herewith tender unconditional resignation as Bvt 2” Lt. Co. “G” 28″ Tenn Regt.  I am not in arrears with the Confederate States am under no charges & have no public funds in my possession.”  On back is notes of chain of command approval.  Approved by Marcus J. M? Brig. Gen.? “Approved & respectfully forwarded.  The service will be benefitted by acceptance of the resignation.”  Inc. original note: “approved” S S Stanton Col 28th T.R”  and signature of L. Polk.
